Impressions of the forties to the eighties
|
On the weekend of 27. / 28. August 2016 the Piper Cub pilots and fans met for the second time on the centrally located, idyllic airfield LSPL with their legendary, historical aircraft.
Enjoy the pictures Langenthal aerodrome is home to a vibrant flying community with three flying clubs and thriving businesses with roots in the aviation industry. At the forefront of maintaining a wide variety of light aircraft is EASA approved Airla GmbH. This innovative company, owned and operated by Gerhard "Geri" Staude, specializes in everything from regular service intervals to the most intricate restoration projects. The company is currently completing three different Cub rebuilds with future aircraft projects lined up. Also located on this quaint swiss aerodrome is a company with deep roots in the aviation industry. Max Daetwyler began restoring surplus Pipers and similar aircraft in 1948 till the early sixties. Max's modified J3/L4's Cubs are still found all over Europe. In the early eighties the Max Daetwyler Corporation introduced the all metal, two seat, FAA/FOCA certified MD3-160 Swiss Trainer. Production rights were sold to the Malaysian government which produced over 20 airplanes as basic trainers for the countries air force. Today the Daetwyler Group is on the leading edge of industrial markets. Daetwyler specializes in creating machines for the machine tool industry world wide and providing vast employment opportunities for the region. Peter Daetwyler, the son of the companies founder and now President, maintains the companies heritage by remaining an active contributor to the aviation community. As a Super Cub owner and enthusiast Peter looks forward to welcoming the Piper Cub community for a weekend dedicated to this legendary airplane. We look forward to seeing many Cubs and fans at our beautiful aerodrome in Langenthal this summer. Our airport restaurant "Flügerli" will cater the evening event in the Swiss Trainer hangar.
